Christmas: The Divine Interruption

DAY 9 OF 10

Mary & Elizabeth

Upon hearing the news about Elizabeth being pregnant in Luke 1:36, Mary heads out the door to find her. When the two meet up, John the Baptist leaps in Elizabeth’s womb when he hears Mary’s voice, and Elizabeth encourages Mary. Let’s endeavor to be like Elizabeth in how we encourage others in their faith journey. “And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord” (Luke 1:45).

Take a few minutes to read and reflect on Mary’s words in Luke 1:46-55 as she stays with Elizabeth. These timeless verses capture Mary’s perspective of carrying God’s promises in our heart until we see them become a reality. These verses reflect a humble attitude and acknowledge God’s faithful lovingkindness to us, not because of what we do or don’t do, but because of who God is. God revealed the perfect reflection of Himself in Jesus. This also makes me deeply inspired by Mary’s worshipful heart as she pours out her gratitude and praise to the God of her daily existence, who is also the timeless God of generations back to Abraham.

Reflection: As we consider Jesus’ birth into human existence, let’s never fail to reply with awe, gratitude and worship, no matter where we find ourselves and encourage others to do the same!

About this Plan

Christmas: The Divine Interruption

When Jesus was born into human existence, it was the most epic interruption to human history that has ever happened. God loves us enough to punctuate history in human skin; not as a king, president, or noble warrior, but as a helpless newborn. This reading plan studies the people surrounding Christ’s birth and their response to (or role in) this divine interruption on the timeline of history.
