Before You See It
Earlier we read in Lamentations 3:24 (NKJV), ...“The Lord is my portion..., Therefore I hope in Him!”
What does it mean to truly rest in the Lord’s portion for us? To have faith and assurance that everything will be taken care of? If we really believed that our answers will be taken care of, we could celebrate with thanksgiving something that we haven’t yet seen. When we convince our hearts to celebrate, we find rest from the strain and the striving that so desperately seeks our attention. We cast away doubt and tell anxiety to cease. We allow contentment in the place we are in. Thanksgiving bubbles up in our contentment, and leads our cup to overflow. Suddenly, the boundary lines which felt frustrating before now become pleasant places. We can relax in the presence of The Lord and know that everything is unfolding the way it should.
We can’t fully rest until we fully surrender. Letting go requires us to refocus our thoughts from what we can’t yet see to the gifts that we are overlooking all around us. To be thankful for all that God has done prepares our hearts for what will be done.
We are forgetful in nature and are always moving forward, so when boundary lines are placed around us, maybe it’s God’s way of giving us an opportunity to stop and reset. Maybe rest is really the posture of receiving?
About this Plan
I have been in that season of waiting many times in my life, and it’s not easy. There is a space between asking and receiving that God calls us to periodically. In a world that tells us we should be striving to find the answers, scripture tells us a different story. Join me as we learn to rest in the waiting.
