Tempted by the Devil
Luke 4:1-2
“Jesus, full of the Holy spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.”
Why was Jesus tempted by the devil for forty days?
He had just been filled with the Holy Spirit and was learning to cooperate with the Holy Spirit in a new level of intimacy. Satan came to oppose the purposes and call of God on his life.
If that was true for Jesus, do we think that the anointing call and purposes of God in our lives will be unopposed?
Are we self-controlled and alert to the schemes of the devil to tempt us in our most vulnerable times and areas of life?
Just like God’s people faced during the times of Joshua and the campaign to claim the Promised Land, next to our inheritance, will often be a giant. To possess our inheritance requires vigilance, spiritual warfare and perseverance.
Lord Jesus, thank you. You were faithful during the temptations and testing of the enemy. I pray for your grace and strength that I too would stand firm.
