Listening To The Word - 1 YearSample
Inquiring of the Lord
2 Chronicles 18:6-7
“…Is there not a prophet of the Lord here whom we can inquire of?’ The king of Israel answered Jehoshaphat,…‘There is still one man through whom we can inquire of the Lord, but I hate him because he never prophesies anything good about me, but always bad…’”
What happens when God’s people stifle the prophetic voice and gifting?
We only hear what we want to hear. Sermons become more about coddling sin than about confronting sin. Leadership teams easily drift toward pride and independence, rather than humility and the fear of the Lord. Without the prophetic voice our mission becomes self-serving and we become blind to the needs of those around us. As uncomfortable and convicting as it is, the word of the Lord brings life. Jesus confronted the religious establishment, the evangelical church of his day (some would say we Evangelicals are the modern Pharisees), but his words brought encouragement and hope to the social outcasts.
What voices are we listening to today?
Lord Jesus, your words are life. I humble myself before you and choose your words over what I want to hear today.
