Where Beauty Comes From
Cultivating inner strength and inner beauty doesn’t happen in an instant, it comes from being consistent. Just like we take care of our external appearance, spending time in the morning prepping our bodies for the day, how much more should we care about the internal? About soul care? One of the ways God shows us the art of living beautifully is in the honor and submission we show to our spouse. Whether you are married now, or want to be married one day, it’s important for you to remember that God cares about marriage. It was His invention! But not only does God care about the union of marriage as a whole, he cares specifically about your marriage! He designed it and He hand picked it just for you. God’s plan for your marriage is freshness. His desire is for you to have a flourishing, thriving marriage. Here are seven things you can take to heart to make your marriage fresh:
- Act like you’re on the same team. Fight for each other, not against each other.
- Don’t retaliate, compensate. When they are weak, you can be strong.
- Try on each other’s shoes. Look at your spouse’s day through their eyes and sympathize.
- Bite your tongue. You don’t need to say everything.
- Stay tender. Stir up the feelings—you can choose to love someone even when you don’t like them.
- Look for beauty. You’ll see more of what you stare at.
- Consider yourself. Check for the plank in your own eye first.
In all of these things, it boils down to submitting to your spouse, serving your spouse, and studying your spouse. Fight for the inner beauty and the beautiful relationship God has for you. It’s worth it!
