[Real Life] Abide To AchieveSample
Costly Stones
Understand that you are clean, that you belong to Him and that you are not the Vine. You don’t have to be worried about the fruit, you are the branch. The fruit will take care of itself. If you abide in Christ, fruit will come. If you understand your identity, you will walk further in your roles; if you focus on your roles, seeking achievement, you will never be on a firm foundation. You will never be the parent or the husband or wife that you should have been.
Make a choice: will you abide in Christ, or not? If we do not abide in Him, we are like a state-of-the-art sprinkler system that is not connected to the water source. NOTHING of eternal value will be achieved in our lives. You may rule the world, but when you die, it will be over. You will not have an eternal legacy.
I saw an article about stars with no talent, on people who are famous for being famous. The same is true of believers in Christ who do not abide. They are spending a lot of effort on life for it to just be gone in a flash.
Today’s verse reminds us that the fire will test each person's work. On that judgment day, we will stand before the throne, and everything we accomplished will be tested. If we did not abide in Christ, like a puff of air—it all will be gone! If I’m not abiding in Jesus, I am not passing down eternal things. I will accomplish nothing.
True achievement comes from true abiding. I am going to abide in order to achieve. I am going to rest in my identity in order to fulfill my roles so that I can accomplish great things for the kingdom of God. My kids will be blessed by eternal things, not just temporary things. The eternal fruit will come through abiding; it will change how we influence the people around us. Then we will stand on judgment day and we will say, “Lord, here are my gold, silver, and costly stones.”
If we miss the target of abiding in Christ now, we will accomplish nothing. Someone else will replace us and we will lose our sense of purpose. But if we abide in Christ, and hit our bull’s-eye of loving Jesus, as we rest in Him and depend upon Him, we will achieve great things!

About this Plan
Where is real life found? The Bible tells us that we find it abiding in Christ. In this second devotional plan from the Real Life series, we learn that to abide is to experience a restful residence and a desperate dependence on Christ. We are not earning our salvation by abiding in Him. We are responding to who we are in Him and that changes how we walk.
