Fruit that Lasts

You and I, standing in friendship with Jesus, will bear fruit for our families, our lives, in everything that we do. People will say, “I know God is holy, but I know you… You are not. How did you two get together?” You will say, “Greater is no love than this, than a man lay down His life for His friends. That’s what Jesus did for me.” From the strength of our relationship with Jesus, we are able to walk in our lives: in marriage, in singlehood, at school, in our neighborhood, in service. 

When we stand next to the Son of God because of His grace, where we know we sinned but His death paid for our sin—that makes a huge statement about Christ. Being about the Master's business is being about abiding in Jesus Christ. We are friends with God, so we live this relationship out in serving Him with all we are and have.

If you don’t know Christ as your Savior, you are in the sinner category; if you know Christ, you are in the saint category. Saints still sin, but we are not defined by that. We did not choose the Teacher, the Master chose us, and He asked us to abide. Jesus says, “If you walk in this friendship with Me, you will have fruit that will last. Abiding will turn into fruit. Walking in friendship with Me will yield fruit that lasts. Love and friendship leave a lasting legacy. 

Jesus Christ is the best friend that you and I will ever have because He laid down His life for us. He did that so the Holy Spirit could live in our hearts and He could call us friend. By being His friends, we get to know Him and love Him. As we are loving Him, we serve Him. We abide deeply so we can achieve greatly. Don’t get these two mixed up. He is not asking what you can do for Him, but what He can do through you. Then you can rest in Christ and watch Him do His work. 

Then, guess what happens? You are the friend that stays when the gators of sin come. You are the friend who stays when your buddy has been shot down at the office. You're the one who shines with Jesus. Your life will have a lasting legacy.
