The Lie Of "Not Enough"Sample
2. The Void Within
We were all created with a God-shaped VOID in our hearts – a longing for something more. This was not accidental but intentional. If we can understand this concept, we can understand our wanderings as well as our empty hearts. But in this world, we often try to fill that heart-longing with material possessions, with a marriage, with children, with some kind of illusive “success”. Some try to fill these “voids” with the lesser things including drugs, alcohol, medications and poor relationships. The enemy of your soul never wants you to understand the truth about your heart’s God-shaped void. He is the great deceiver and comes only to rob, kill and destroy.
The Lord created us to live in a relationship with Him in order to fill that “God Shaped” void in our hearts. He also created us with the gift of choice. He wanted us to CHOOSE a relationship with Him, our Creator, the Knitter, the Designer and the Knower! He knocks at the door of our hearts. He beckons us through nature, right relationships and His Word.
His Word is the lamp for our lives; a guidebook for our days; the answer book for our questions of adequacy, of direction, and of sufficiency. It is the Owner’s Manual for our hearts and successful living. Nothing will satisfy the God-shaped void in your heart that only He was designed to fulfill. Your completeness is found in relationship with Him. Choose this day carefully how you will fill this void as your life truly depends on it.
Questions to ponder:
· Describe the difference between your “NEEDS” and my “WANTS”?
· How do I chase after futile substitutes to fill the empty place in my heart?
· How can I stabilize my life by incorporating the life-giving Word of God in my daily routine?
Life-giving Prayer:
Lord, thank you for designing me with a God-shaped void in order that I may be drawn to You as a thirsty soul is drawn to water. I need Your sufficiency in my insufficient places. Please help me recognize the false substitutes that will never fulfill and bring me satisfying joy. I hunger for wholeness. I realize that “wholeness” can only be found in You completing my God-Shaped void.
