Upside Down - Kingdom Living

DAY 11 OF 12

"Our Identity"

Our identity is in what makes us unique. There are people whose identity might be that they are one-legged, or that they are 7’ 2”, or they have flaming red hair. But when we are just like others around us, it does not create a sense of identity. Being two-legged, 5’ 10” man with brown hair does not make an identity.

In the I Peter 2 passage we are given a unique and majestic identity. Peter lays out our identity a chosen nation, a people, a holy priest hood, and exiles. It is clear that Jesus wants us to see how distinct we are; how unique we are, and how precious to God we are.

This uniqueness has several aspects. First, it calls us to be holy and not to find our identity in the culture around us. Second, it calls us to be passing through (sojourner) and to be aliens (exiles). Third, don’t expect the journey to be an easy one, after all our own soul is at war with our passions.

Reflections:
1. Who are you? The quick answer to this question might reveal where you are placing your identity.
2. Does the majestic nature of our calling seem to be elusive?

About this Plan

Upside Down - Kingdom Living

Jesus taught us that to follow him, we must often live opposite to our culture; he turned the rules upside down. This 12 day devotional dives into what it means to live Upside Down in a kingdom that isn't definied by race, status, circumstance, gender, or geography, but by a love of Christ. Can we really live a life surrendered to the prayer "Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven"?
