Gospel And Sexual AbuseSample
You Are Not To Blame
Judges 19 examines a story of sexual abuse. This story opens by telling us that a concubine leaves a Levite Priest/husband and he waits four months before he decides to go after the woman. She agrees to return with him and they begin their journey home. The night falls near a town named Gibeah where the Levite and his concubine decide to rest for the night.
However, the night is interrupted by a group of men or “worthless fellows” demanding to know or have sexual relations with the priest. The Levite Priest commits a great act of betrayal and seizes the concubine and offers her up in his place. The word of God tells us that the men abused her (concubine) all night until day. To put it simply they gang raped her.
Here’s what you should know: you are not responsible for the sin committed against you. The Bible is very clear on two things in this story. First, the worthless fellows wanted to have sex with the priest not the woman. Second, the priest seized the concubine. This means she put up a fight and did not go willingly. All of this shows us that this gruesome attack was not her fault. It is a result of living in a fallen world where people do not allow Jesus to sit on the throne of their hearts.

About this Plan
Sexual abuse is somewhat the secret sin of the church. In turn, many are hurting and remain silent. The sexually abused often blame themselves. However, there is hope in Jesus Christ. Let's look at an Old Testament story of sexual abuse and the redemption that follows.
