[Difference Makers] Harvest Sample
Kind Of People
Jesus said that the harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. The problem is not with the harvest. Many people realize they have a need of the soul. The problem, according to Jesus, is that there are few workers. He says to pray that God would send out workers into His harvest.
Jesus tells us to pray for difference makers. They are people who say “Yes!” to God. They are the ones who stand up and pray, saying, “I want You to call on me, Lord. I want to be the one who makes a difference in my city, my nation, my world. I want to be a yes person.”
There are not enough yes people. There are not enough people who are stepping forward to say, "Yes, yes, I'm in. I want God to do something in me and through me."
Many of us Christians are not yes people, but kind of people. We are kind of committed to the Lord. When asked to give, we answer “You know, I've given in other ways.” When asked to go, we say, “I’m for missions, but I'm not going to go on a trip. I like my pillow. I like my blanket.” If asked, “Are you going to share your faith?” we answer, “It is just so hard; at work we cannot really do that; no . . .” If asked, “Are you going to teach your kids about God?” we say, “Well, I do not want to force anything upon them. I just want them to choose for themselves one day.”
We are kind of people. We are kind of in it, kind of out of it. We are a little bit scared, and a little less faithful, until finally we become hiding people.
But to follow Jesus, we must see the crowds with compassion, not hate. We must recognize they are weary and worn out. They have no shepherd. And we, who have a Shepherd, must pray.
Pray: Lord, I want to be a yes person. I want to follow You. And as I follow You, Lord, You will bring people in my path whose physical needs I can minister to and care for. I want to share Your greatness with them. I trust that You will have a harvest, Lord, as You work through me.
