Light Keeper: You found the light... now what?
Yesterday we talked about navigating in the darkness and as a Christian you have a special light that will guide you. But what do you do now that you found the light? You guard your light.
You are now the light keeper for Christ, but don’t let the name fool you. You are not “keeping” anything tucked away. As a light keeper for Christ you are to shine the light into all the world (as we will talk about in day 5) but you must also guard your light to keep it safe. See, the light keeper is the resident of the lighthouse who makes sure that the light continually shines no matter what. Whether there are rough seas, blizzards, or hurricanes the light keeper cares for the light to make sure it continuously shines.
How do we do this in our Christian life? By living out Proverbs 4:23 and Philippians 4:8. Guard your heart for everything flows from it, and keep your thoughts on whatever is…. true, noble, right, pure, lovely and admirable. We guard our time and look at what we spend it doing. Are you spending more time on video games and Facebook, or in prayer and reading God’s word?
I’m not going to lie to you. This is hard to balance, even for someone who has been a Christian for many years. We have so many distractions coming at us that want to extinguish our light for God. But we must battle the elements just as the lighthouse keeper did—to protect the light that emanates from within us.
