[Psalms] Why We Need to SingSample

[Psalms] Why We Need to Sing

DAY 4 OF 7

A Fair and Lovely Gift

There are four reasons why it is important that we sing to the Lord.

As we considered yesterday, number one is: Singing grows our vision of God.

Number two: Singing softens our heart and firms our resolve. Even in my own life as I worship before I am about to speak, it is softening my heart and it is firming my resolve. There have been times when I was about to share and, as I sang, I have been able to say, “Lord, this is going to be a difficult or controversial message. I’m not sure how this is going to go. But Lord, I want to firm my resolve that I’m going to teach Your Word even though it’s a difficult passage. Lord, I want You to use me. I’ve got a lot of stuff prepared. I’m ready to go. But God, if I don’t do this with love, then I’m like a clanging gong or a tinkling cymbal. Lord, I allow Your love in my heart and my life.”

Martin Luther, the leader of the Protestant Reformation, said this when they asked him to recant his faith: “I can do no other but stand on the things of God.” And he died for his faith with a firm resolve.

Martin Luther also commented on the music, “Music is a fair and lovely gift of God which has often awakened and moved me to the joy of preaching. Next, after theology, I give music the highest place and highest honor. My heart bubbles up and overflows in response to music, which has so often refreshed me and delivered me from dire plagues.”

God softens our hearts and He firms our resolve. In the book of Acts, Paul and Silas are singing in the jail cell at midnight. Maybe you have gone through incredibly excruciating, difficult times in your life, and I bet God has given you a song that you can sing in the midnight hour of pain. God takes us through our hard times with a song in our heart before Him, so it firms our resolve.

Even though I do not understand what You are doing, God, I am still going to walk with You. I know that You are with me. I want a soft heart before You. Amen

About this Plan

[Psalms] Why We Need to Sing

It does not matter if you are a good singer. Praising is what matters. Not the vocal cords, but the cords of your heart. If you are a bad worshiper, that is a problem. If you do not give God praise, it will affect your way of life. Praise is about your heart before the Lord of singing to God, not just singing about God.
