How The Shepherd Rescued The SheepSample
The Wandering Sheep
When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, God promised to send the One who would fix what sin had broken. This was the Messiah who would save His people from their sin.
The wandering sheep needed a special Shepherd. He would be mighty and strong. He would not give up until every one of His lost sheep was found. No other shepherd could do it. So God became the Savior the lost sheep needed.
A man named Isaiah told the news to everyone about a very special baby many years before He came. So God’s people were expecting this Messiah, or Savior, to come to rule the earth.
The Special Shepherd Arrives
At the perfect time, this very special Shepherd came from heaven into the world. The night the Great Shepherd was born, His mom and dad were traveling. They went to Bethlehem to be part of a population count or census. When they arrived in the city, there were no more rooms available in the inn, so the baby had to be born in a stable. Mary, His earthly mom, had to place Him in a manger, just like the prophet Isaiah had announced many years before.
But why would Jesus leave heaven to look for sheep? Why would anyone do it?
God loves His lost sheep. He sees their pain and sadness. He knew that they would never find their way back to God on their own. God wanted to care for them, heal them, and fix the broken world they lived in because He loved them. That is why God sent Jesus, the Good Shepherd, to rescue His sheep and bring them back home. God’s rescue plan was starting to take place!
Jesus grew from a baby to a man. He was God, but He was also a human being just like you.
Like a Good Shepherd, Jesus cared for the lost sheep. He shared the Good News of God’s plan to fix what sin had broken. Jesus did amazing things then and is still doing them now!
