Read To Me Daily Semester 4Sample
2CHRONICLES 1:
Yesterday in the last two chapters of Hosea, we heard his last heart-felt warning. At the end of his book, Hosea penned a rather short apology on behalf of the people, and a request for forgiveness. God responded lovingly, pleading that the people of Israel to stay away from idols. And now we return to the story we interrupted at the break between 1st and 2nd Chronicles.
PROVERBS 26a:
Here is our highlighted proverb for today:
Pro. 26:12 NLT There is more hope for fools
than for people who think they are wise.
MATTHEW 7b:
Yesterday’s reading in the Sermon on the Mount included one of the most often quoted but most poorly understood verses of the Bible. Check yourself before telling someone, “Do not judge, and you will not be judged.” If you are saying that in order to deflect criticism against yourself, you are doing what a hypocrite does. And ironically, not being a hypocrite is the main theme of the passage. Nor is the meaning that we Christians must not judge other people at all. We must not judge hypocritically, but the Bible shows us how to judge rightly and fairly— as is necessary for us in this world.
Let’s pray.
Dear heavenly Father, how deep is your love for your people, and how just is your anger. How beautiful is your mercy, bot no one can bear your wrath. Give us the wisdom to understand Hosea’s final warning. May your love inspire us to follow your will, and understand the rightness of your judgments for those who do not follow it. And Lord Jesus, You also warn us. You give amazing promises, and then You speak clearly about hell. So help us to enter by the narrow gate, and to go all the way inside to be safe. But help us also to stay close enough to the door to help others find it. You encourage us to keep on asking, seeking, and knocking. Because You, heavenly Father, love us, we will receive what we pray for, You will give us what we are seeking, and open closed doors for us. Today we will name the people who we know who need You— the ones we have prayed about before. We’re knocking and asking again, Lord. And we pray for our closest friends who need healing. You will not give us a stone instead of bread, or a snake instead of a fish. So we ask believing in your love because of your Son, Jesus.
