Christmas Is . . . : Devotions From Time of Grace Sample
Christmas is a time to seek
How fast do you think the shepherds ran at Christmas? Once the angels had delivered God’s mail and told the shepherds that the Savior of the world was in Bethlehem, what pace do you think those guys clocked on the way there? Luke’s gospel records, “So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger” (Luke 2:16). They ran.
And why wouldn’t they? If the angelic rumors were true, they were just a few steps from the promised Savior from sin, from God in human flesh. But since baby Jesus wasn’t Amazon-ed to their pasture, they had to seek him. They had to take a step.
Sounds like life, doesn’t it? There are glorious promises connected to Jesus: He forgives and cleanses and saves and guides and prepares a place for you. He is the Good Shepherd, the Bread of life, the Light of the world, the Vine that helps Christians produce the fruit of love, peace, and joy. But, just like in that famous field in Bethlehem, Jesus is not visible right here. His voice isn’t echoing off the walls of the place where you are. No, we have to seek him. To open the Bible and seek the real Jesus in the Word. To follow his footsteps through the gospels until we find the only one who can satisfy our souls.
But he’s so close. Just a step or two away. So, seek him today. Spend some time running off through his Word. Trust me; he’s worth hurrying off to find.
