God, I Pray For My Kids

DAY 2 OF 5

God, Lead My Children

We all want God to lead our children. We may want God to lead them to straight A's (or even C's) or to a career field that will provide for their needs. Or maybe we want God to lead them away from friends who influence them to make wrong choices. Our verse today declares that God leads us based on His attribute of righteousness.

God is righteous, which means He cannot and will not pass over wrongdoing. This is instrumental in our salvation because, in order for our sins to be forgiven, Jesus had to have our sins placed on Him.

So, what does God’s righteousness have to do with His ability to lead us? Why did David call on God’s righteousness when he asked God to lead him through his enemies. First, God can’t look at sin. David declares that we are in need of God’s salvation. Second, because of God’s righteousness, He is relentlessly good. He provided a way of salvation through Jesus. Based on God’s righteousness, He will make our way straight.

David wanted to follow God’s right way and this prayer reflects his heart. The Lord will never lead us down the road of sin, but down paths of righteousness. David prayed that he would walk down the road that was smooth and level, free from the potholes of sin.

We can pray this verse for our children. May God make their way straight.

Suggested Prayer:

Father God, I declare Your righteousness and I’m thankful that I can rely on You to lead my children. Lead them, because of Your righteousness. Take them by the hand and guide them down straight paths. Remove the obstacles of sin and the temptations that want to attack them. Help them follow closely after You.

I pray also for children around the world who have the same goal of walking Your path. Their circumstances may be different than my own children, but they need You to lead them as well. I ask that Your wisdom be their guide so they can set the foundation and the path for a way out of whatever difficult circumstance they face. Make their way straight.
