THE MIGHTY HAND OF GOD

In Seattle, just southeast of the city, we have this gorgeous mountain called Mt. Rainer. On a clear day when the sun is shining, the mountain completely captivates you, which is troublesome while driving, but nevertheless, you make do. It’s such a breathtaking image, that regardless of what or who you may believe put it there, it’s a fools errand to assume that man or woman would be capable of creating something as complex and both visually and geographically consuming as a mountain!

As a Christian, believing that all things were created by Jesus and through Jesus, when I look at that mountain my heart is drawn to worship Jesus and celebrate this thing that His hand has made. I’m reminded that the God who made that majestic mountain, also took time to purposefully make and know me. That the same hand that made towering mountains and dug out deep oceans wide was also painfully nailed to the cross for my sins. And that same hand that parted the Red Sea for the Israelites to walk through by faith, sustains us all the days of our lives.

Daily, as image bearers of God, we are provided for in the most essential of ways. Things like breath, food, shelter, emotions are all examples of God’s common grace toward everyone he has created. God is unchanging in His care for His created, He gives water to survive, and even more, offers living water through Jesus to live forever!

So in addition to God’s common grace, we have been given access into his saving grace. You have been well provided for. Even in the hardest of circumstances, when the basic essentials you may need to physically survive are lacking or failing, remember the God who saved you will never let you go. Nothing can snatch you from His hand. God saves us, He is good to sustain us.

Take a piece of paper today and on one side write down all the things you are looking to God to provide. On the other side write down all the ways He has provided for you throughout the past week. Regardless of how long each list is, that’s not the point, you will be hard pressed to not find yourself a bit surprised by all the ways the hand of God has provided for you.
