Just Jesus: 5 Stories To Know Him BetterSample
God has so much to do that he couldn’t possibly care about the little things in your life, right? There are 7 billion people in the world. There are hurricanes and cancer and wars. God must have his hands full with all that.
Maybe you’ve thought: “God doesn’t have time to think about little stuff. Does he really care that my friends ignored me at lunch? Or that I sat on the bench during the game? Or that I failed my history quiz? God is probably too busy for the everyday stuff.”
Actually, God cares very much about the everyday stuff, like food for instance.
One time, Jesus had spent all day healing sick people and teaching a huge crowd, literally thousands of people. When he was finished, it was dinner time. People were getting hungry. But they hadn’t planned on it being such a long day, so among all those thousands of people, there was only five loaves of bread and two small fish. Total. That was it. Just one small meal to feed one enormous crowd.
Can you imagine how ridiculous the situation would have seemed? That would be like feeding a sold-out NBA game, or an overcrowded concert arena, or every jam-packed middle school cafeteria in your city or county with just five Subway foot-longs and two bags of goldfish. Right. Whatever. No way.
But Jesus can do miraculous things, remember, because he’s God. So, yeah – he fed all those thousands of people with a plain old everyday not-supersized lunch.
Why did he do that?
The people were probably hungry after such a long day. But it's not as though they were starving. It wasn’t a matter of life and death. Missing one meal isn't a huge deal. But Jesus cared about what was happening to the people right then and there, and even though he didn’t need to, and even though the crowd would have been fine without it, he fed them. All of them. Because he cared.
If Jesus cares about growling stomachs, surely he cares about the small details in your life. He cares when you trip walking down the hall and feel embarrassed about people noticing. He cares when your feelings get hurt by someone's careless words. He cares when you’re feeling lonely. And yes, he cares when your stomach is growling.
God cares about every moment in your life, even the ones that nobody else notices. Sometimes, he shows it in a big way, like when he fed that crowd of thousands. Sometimes he shows it in smaller ways that we can’t see and maybe will never know about. Either way, God is there and he cares. About everything. All the time.
