UNCOMMEN: Dads 2Sample
The Power of a Praying Father
1 Chronicles 29:19 "And give my son Solomon the wholehearted devotion to keep your commands, statutes and decrees and to do everything to build the palatial structure for which I have provided.”
James 5:16 “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
There is nothing more powerful than a parent who prays for his/her children. As we see in our Scripture verse of 1 Chronicles 29:19, David is asking God to give Solomon a whole heart. He prays Solomon would keep God’s commandments, testimonies, and statutes.
Your prayer is necessary for your children. We live in a fallen, broken world filled with struggles. So, in a world that is poised and ready to tear down, you better be praying for your children (along with a lot of other people and things) every chance you get. Your children need to see you praying for them so they can learn to pray for others as well.
2 Chronicles 7:14 — "if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."
As you can see by that verse, the same fallen culture of their time is here today. But God tells us how to change that. “If my people…humble themselves, pray, seek God, and repent, then I will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Looking at the news and social media today, I don’t think many people are applying 2 Chronicles 7:14 to their lives. Let’s change that today and start to be Uncommen!
Uncommen Questions:
Do you spend time in prayer for your children? What do you pray for?
Do you encourage your children to pray?
Do you ask them what you can pray for?
Uncommen Challenge:
I challenge you to spend some time speaking with your children to find out what they need prayer for and then spend time with God on that topic. Pray for your children as if their lives depended on it because many times it may, and you may never know it.
Scripture Verses:
1 Chronicles 29:19
James 5:16
2 Chronicles 7:14
