True Church 

We are living in a time when the size of the church has become more important than the spiritual depth of the people. Causing many to wonder, is this really what church is all about?

When you take to the pages of Scripture, it is very clear that Jesus meant for His church to be so much more than what we see modeled. 

According to the Bible, the church is the “body of Christ” (1 Corinthians 12:13)—of which Christ is the Head (Ephesians 1:22). Church is a gathering of like-minded believers (referred as the “bride of Christ”), who come to worship and learn more about their Bridegroom (Matthew 25:6). This not only reflects the rulership of Christ, but it also reveals the relationship of Christ to His church.

Think of the church as a living organism, with many active members that are diverse in functionality, yet united as one. Paul writes, “There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope when you were called—one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all” (Ephesians 4:4-6).

When we gather as a community of believers, it’s more than just socializing. It’s about “stirring up love and good works” (Hebrews 10:24). The Bible tells us we are “joined and knit together” (Ephesians 4:16), so that we can grow together in the perfect love of Christ.

It’s quite clear that church isn’t about singing certain worship music. It’s about worshipping God. It’s not about the people on stage. It’s all about the God of heaven (Psalm 145). Church isn’t about the pastor or a certain program or department. It’s a place where shepherds care for their flock and faithfully preach and teach the Word of God (Ephesians 4:12; 1 Peter 5:1-4), and send out disciples who will reach the nations with the gospel of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20).

That's the markings of a true church!
