Remember the other day when we talked about Indiana Jones and taking a leap of faith? Indy was encouraged to take the step because of the instruction he remembered. 

Had Indiana Jones not received that instruction he would have been stuck. The same is true for us spiritually. God does not want us to be stuck. So He gives us His Spirit as a guide and His Word, the Bible, as a record of His promises and instructions. 

We make millions of decisions every day. The more we read the Bible and talk to God in prayer, the easier it is to know what He would want us to do. Sometimes, a verse will speak directly to our situation. Other times, we’ll have to pray and lean into what we’ve learned about God’s character. 

You know how you can predict what bae would do in any given situation? Spending time with God creates that same level of closeness. 

Psalm 116:2 says God inclines His ear to us. The God who made everything listens to our prayers. If you ever have a question about what God wants for you, ask. If you need something, ask. God is a good dad who loves to hear from His kids. You’re not bothering Him or putting Him out. 

Take everything to God and talk to Him like He is the living, active, breathing God that He is. And when you think you’ve heard back from Him, consider what you’ve read about His character. 

Does what you heard sound like the same God you read about? Then it probably is.

• Think about times in your day when you naturally pause. Are there times, such as before meals, before games, or at bedtime, when you can be more intentional about how you pray? 
• In Matthew 6:9-13, Jesus gives us an example of how to pray. Try putting that prayer in your own words. Then take 3 minutes to sit in silence and listen to God’s voice.
• Write down everything you hear in your mind as you pray. Compare these words to what God has said in the Bible. As verses come to mind, today or in the future, jot them down next to what you heard. This will help you discern what is from God and what might not be.
