Read To Me Daily Semester 3Sample
2KINGS 23:
Yesterday in 2nd Kings, we heard how Hilkiah found the book of the Law in the temple while repairs were being carried out as ordered by king Josiah. When Josiah heard the book of the Law, he instituted reforms. And God again was glorified in fulfilling a prophecy we heard in 1 Kings.
PSALM 134:
Today we read the last of the Psalms of Ascent, Psalm 134. I would like to have been one of the Levitical temple musicians who had the duty of singing praises to God at night.
JOHN 15:18—16:15:
Today in the Gospel of John, we continue listening to the teachings Jesus gave in the upper room. I have chosen to reread the last verses of chapter 15, in order to help us make the connection with chapter 16.
Let’s pray.
Lord Jesus, how wonderful and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in harmony! And that is what we will enjoy when your promised blessing is fulfilled— wonderful harmony in ‘life that never ends’. Right now, however, we live in a world that might remind us of the reign of king Manasseh over Judah. The world hates us— just as You prophesied to the eleven disciples. In our world, mentioning following what the Bible says is labeled ‘intolerant’. And your people are being increasingly marginalized and hated. But You remind us that the world hated you first! You paid the ultimate price to redeem us from the world. The world cannot claim to follow God if they hate You. So we praise You that You have already sent the Holy Spirit, and that his definitive witness about you is contained in the Bible. And Holy Spirit, we call out to You to be with us today and to help us every time we have an opportunity to speak about Jesus.
