Read To Me Daily Semester 3Sample
1KINGS 4-5:
In yesterday’s story in 1st Kings, we heard David's final instructions to Solomon. They contained a few messy details, and Solomon managed to finish all of those issues. David noted Solomon's wisdom as he gave him those instructions, and later Solomon (at his finest hour) asked God for wisdom to rule the nation of Israel well, and God gave it to him.
PSALM 119:65-80:
Again I remind us that in Psalm 119, God is telling us how important His Word is. I highlight this verse (62) from yesterday’s portion, “In the middle of the night I wake up to praise you for your righteous judgments.”
JOHN 5b:
Yesterday in the Gospel of John we heard of Jesus healing a man who had been sick for 38 years. Persecution ramped up because this healing was done on a Sabbath. Jesus replied to his critics, “My Father is always working, and so am I.”
Let’s pray: Our Savior, Christ Jesus, You are the source of life, and the heavenly Father has given You the power to judge. Yet You show your humility in that you always desire to do the will of your Father and to glorify Him. Your speaking so truthfully of your right to judge could not have been called ‘politically correct’ at that time and to those listeners. But talking about that was the loving thing to do, as You were warning those who were judging You. You did NOT shrink back from warning people about sin. Lord help us, because we live in an age where people refuse to hear that there will be a judgment, much less that You are the Judge. So, Lord, we ask You to give us love for people like your own love for them. Give us the ability to be truthful, just as You were truthful. Open the eyes of the people we love whom we are thinking of now, so that they may understand that You are the One who died for them to save them from judgment and the consequences of their sin.
