Happiness is Part of Our Design 

Do you want to be happy? 

More than likely, if you asked anyone in any part of the world this question, they would definitely say yes. They might talk about different things that make them happy, but people all over the world desire some form of happiness.  

We like being happy because that’s how God designed us.

When God created the world, everything was good. Adam and Eve were together, and the two of them got to experience full community with God. They did not long for happiness because they just were happy. They lived in God’s presence, and they always experienced the fullness of His joy.

Now, of course, we know that’s not the case. We all have bad days and bad moods, but the desire for happiness never leaves. People look in so many different places for happiness, hoping that they will find the magic formula or pill or exercise routine that will bring them everlasting happiness. 

But we cannot find lasting happiness in this world. 

In this study, we will see how our pursuits of finding happiness outside of Christ leave us empty, and we will look at how Christ gives us the happiness we long for through His Spirit.  

Use today’s verses to set up the rest of the study. Worship the Lord and praise Him as you read through these Psalms that declare truths about the joy of the Lord.
