Day Six

“I’m Bored!”

Scripture: Psalm 118:24

Lord,

There is nothing worse on a quiet afternoon than my daughter coming to me and saying, “I’m bored!” So much of her time is spoken for by school or other activities, that when she has a few free hours she can be lost as to how to spend them. 

Help my daughter to find purpose in her days. Energize her to use her creativity. Burden her heart to serve her family and be helpful in our home. Give her an open spirit that welcomes friends and shows hospitality. Motivate her to expand her mind through reading and challenging projects. 

Show my daughter that you have purposes for her even though she’s young. Give her anticipation each morning for how you will use her that day. Help her to see time as a gift from you, something not to waste but to enjoy to the fullest. 

Give me wisdom in how to guide my daughter. Keep me from the trap of trying to entertain her every moment. Show me when to give her space to fill her own hours and when to draw near for time together. 

When my daughter is bored, the internet is especially tempting. Protect her from online dangers. Keep her from creating connections with anyone who might bring harm. Guard her eyes from anything that could steal her innocence. 

Technology can be a trap that draws her in for hours. Give me wisdom to know what boundaries to set, and give her a submissive heart to accept those limits. Create openness between us so she holds no secret contacts or experiences online. Help me to know the best ways to support and protect her as she expands her world. 

Fill my daughter’s heart with gratitude for her wonderful life. Help her to count her blessings so she doesn’t dwell on what she’s unable to do. Protect her from a negative attitude that keeps satisfaction out of reach. Let her see that her life is yours and you desire to fill each day with good things. 

Lord, when I’m tempted to say, “I’m bored,” help me to be still and remember that I’m yours too. Let me stay cheerful and active so my daughter can see what joy is found in living life to the fullest. Amen.
