Daily Bible Reading — Sustained By God’s Word Of FaithSample
May 7
Introduction
The people of Israel sin against the LORD by worshiping other gods. God raises up leaders to save the people from their enemies, but the people return to their sinful ways after each leader dies.
Today’s Scripture: Judges 2:18b
The LORD would have mercy on them because they groaned under their suffering and oppression.
Today’s Reading
Judges 2:11-23
Reflect
In what ways did the people sin against the LORD? What happened as a result? According to verse 16, what was the role of Israel’s leaders (judges)? Reread verses 18 and 19. What pattern of behavior is described here? Why did the LORD allow various nations to remain in the land?
Pray
Merciful God, you hear the cries of your people when they suffer and are oppressed. When I fail to obey you, call me back to you and help me to serve you faithfully. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Those struggling to overcome unhealthy patterns of behavior
Tomorrow’s Reading
Judges 3:1-11: Othniel becomes a leader in Israel.
