For My King (Alicia Simila)

Psalms 103:1-2 says, “Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise His holy name. Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things He does for me.”

While forging the melody and carefully constructing the lyrics for the song “For My King”, the scriptures in Psalms rang loudly in my heart. Sing, lift, declare, dance, worship, and praise the Lord for the good things He has done. The psalmists write with robust authority and they don’t just encourage people to sing but command people to outwork their gratitude and express their praise to God through song.

You don’t have to be a worship leader, musician, or professional vocalist to lift your voice and worship the Creator. Every human with lungs inside their chest and every person who inhales and exhales to sustain life have been called to use their breath to glorify God. When we gather in our local churches and worship as a congregation, this act of obedience and sign of surrender ushers in the presence of God powerfully, and in the presence of God we are forever changed. I will sing for You my King.
