RESOLVE NOT SOLVE
When faced with an overwhelming problem situation, there are usually two ways people deal with it
1. Most people tend to identify too much with the problem situation. They go to great lengths to explain how they are in a fix because of people who unduly wronged them or overlooked them. They have a victim mentality and get more and more bitter and delay the solution.
2. The stronger ones, however, concentrate more aggressively on getting out of the problem. They analyse the problem situation in their minds, employ their reasoning or social connections to solve it.
I felt so pleased thinking about how I mostly fit into the second category of a solution seeker. Oh, I reasoned, I always faithfully ask God to (merely) bless the strategy I have worked out in my mind! But I had to admit that oftentimes in the pursuit of a solution, strong-willed people can inadvertently ride roughshod over others and miss the gentle leadings of the Spirit.
God showed me that there is a third and more effective category I could graduate to!
The third category refers to those who have trained their spiritual eyes to recognize Christ as the first to arrive as a relief and rescuer asking us, ‘My child I am here to help you. What can I do for you?’.
Such are the ones who resolve problems with a
- Supernatural Shield from accusing tongues and a sense of humiliation
- Strong and Secure arms to hold us up emotionally
- Sharp mind of Christ within us (1 Cor 2:16b) to overcome without loss of relationships and loss of face
- Strong team of triune God & heavenly hosts moving to rally supernatural favor
- Strength to confess the hardness of heart that shunned God’s warnings, and wisdom that could have averted the problem
"God help me to not get overwhelmed or reactive but be able to perceive your presence right in the midst of my problems and respond, Thank you! Lord, I know you are with me in this mess. You are the wisdom of God within me. I will obey. I don’t wish to leave a trail of wounded hearts behind me in my wounded state of mind".
Collaborate with such a Christ-initiated strategy to resolve problems without a scar or a self-righteous attitude!
