People are able to trust God, even when He isn’t giving them what they want, because they have already decided what they believe about Him. In these desperate moments, they are not just now deciding what they believe about God. They have spent their lives getting to know God, through reading the Scriptures, through prayer, through God providing, through personal experience—they have a real relationship with God. They know Him to be good. Then in extreme difficulties, they don’t go by the way they feel or what they are seeing, but what they know. They know God.

When you have already decided that you can trust God, you are able to give Him the benefit of the doubt when you have doubts.

What I know is that God is love, that God is for me and that God was willing to do the hardest thing possible (have His Son die) for me. I know that God is powerful, He is on my side, and He is working in my situation even when I can’t see it. This all tells me there is nothing He would not do for me. 

When God doesn’t give you what you want, you remember who He is. You may not know the why, but you know that He knows, and you know Him.
