Sex, Purity, And The Longings Of A Girl's HeartSample
Truth about Our Design
God’s design for sex, marriage, and womanhood is stunningly beautiful. He is for these things and wants to show us how to embrace them rightly. When we take God at His word and put our trust in His plan, we will experience true freedom. Will it be easy? No. But the fight is undoubtedly worth it. God’s ways are always better.
Truth #1: Sexual Identity Is a God-Assigned Reality
We are to view our sexual desires from a biblical framework. Apart from Christ, our hearts aren’t going to lead us toward truth, righteousness, or freedom. Knowing the heart is deceitful above all things, we should be wary of staking our identity on how we feel. When we form our desires based upon what God says in Scripture, we understand that sinful desires don’t define our identity.
As our Creator, God defines who we are. Many Christian woman who struggle with same-sex attraction have discovered the life-changing freedom of allowing God to define their sexuality and womanhood. This is a huge conversation, and we are simply introducing it today. But one truth we bare witness to among all women, regardless of their struggles: as natural desires are submitted to God, lives are radically transformed by the power of the gospel.
Truth #2: Marriage Is a Covenant between a Man and a Woman
Yesterday we recognized that modern society takes the position that marriage is a contract between two people with the goal of finding personal happiness. Unlike a contractual agreement, the marriage relationship is patterned after God’s own covenant relationship with His people, the Church. A covenant is a promise that cannot be broken. God created marriage as a way to show the world what His covenant love and faithfulness look like for His children.
Defining marriage according to God’s terms is crucially important for displaying an accurate picture of who God is and what the gospel means. When two people of the same gender unite together and call it marriage, the union fails to tell the true story of Christ and His Church. When a couple decides to live together instead of getting married, it fails to tell the true story of God’s covenant love. When a marriage is riveted with adultery and divorce, it fails to tell the true story of God’s faithfulness and promise. Our greatest aim is to glorify God in everything we do. This includes the way we embrace and define marriage.
In what ways does society cheapen and devalue each woman’s unique sexual design? What does it mean to value what God has created?
