God Is ... Through Matthew

DAY 3 OF 28

God is . . . Father

Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:15-17 NIV

At the exact moment when Jesus was baptized, God spoke a blessing over Him, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with whom I am well pleased.” Have you ever taken a moment to consider that God likes when you recognize Him as your Father? He enjoys being your Father! He sought you, and you chose Him. You are His child, so He loves you and is pleased with you.

Consider Zephaniah 3:17 NIV, which tells you, “The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” God Himself rejoices in song when He thinks about you, His son or daughter.

Take a moment to imagine God singing happily — about you! What lyrics do you think He might be singing?

Prayer:

God, today I acknowledge You as my Heavenly Father. Thank You for making me Your child! I am so grateful for Your love. Thank You, God, for revealing Yourself to me through the Bible. Amen in Jesus’ Holy name.
