Daily Bible Reading — Sustained By God’s Word Of Hope

DAY 3 OF 30

April 3

Introduction

Jesus heals a man on the Sabbath and challenges the religious leaders by questioning them as to whether his action is lawful. By means of a parable of a wedding feast, Jesus teaches about humility and hospitality.

Today’s Scripture: Luke 14:11 (GNT)

[Jesus said:] “For those who make themselves great will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be made great.”

Today’s Reading

Luke 14:1-14

Reflect

In a previous account (Luke 13:10-17), Jesus’s act of healing on the Sabbath was met with opposition by a synagogue official. Why, in today’s reading, are the religious leaders silent?

All the action in today’s reading takes place at the home of one of the leading religious leaders. How might the listeners have interpreted what they heard Jesus say? What is your understanding of Jesus’s teachings?

Pray

Lord Jesus, humble my heart and teach me to walk in your ways. Teach me to reach out to those in need and share the good news of your love and salvation. Amen.

Prayer Concern

Those who are poor, crippled, lame, blind

Tomorrow’s Reading

Luke 14:15-35: Jesus teaches about what it means to be a disciple.
