DAY 5 OF 86

NUMBERS 29-30:
Yesterday in our reading in Numbers, we heard about the request of the daughters of Zelophehad, and the Lord told Moses that it was time for him to die. Joshua was appointed to lead in Moses' place. And we were given the list of sacrificial offerings to be given every day in the morning and evening, those given each Sabbath, and those offered on the first day of the month, at the festival of unleavened bread, and the harvest festival. Our first chapter today, chapter 29, has a similar listing of offerings for three more festivals.

PSALM 43:
Today’s psalm— chapter 43, is a companion poem to Psalm 42,  containing the same refrain at the end. Both Psalms seem to be a prayer of someone in exile, who is unable to go to Jerusalem. This is a prayer for God to defend and guide each of us as worshipers of the Lord.

ACTS 4a:
Yesterday in Acts 3, we heard the story of the remarkable healing of lame beggar at the Beautiful Gate of the temple. Peter's speech was interrupted as we will hear today.

Let’s pray before we open God’s Word.
Our Lord Jesus, You are amazing! It was not Peter and John’s devout lives or power that healed that lame man. You did it. Peter and John simply believed fully in You. The man himself must have experienced a surge of belief in You as his feet and ankles strengthened. I pray that you will give my listener the same full belief in You. If my listener is just starting on his or her spiritual journey, send spiritual strength for each new step. One of the first steps given in Peter’s speech is to repent— to turn from our wicked ways. As we turn to You, Lord, please forgive our sins. And we note that Peter quoted Moses’ words, that we must obey everything that You— our prophet and Messiah, tell us to do. Thank You too that the blessing of salvation You have secured fulfills the promise given to Abraham to bless all the people on earth. And now— we, Your people, can walk, and jump, and praise our God.
