THE GRACE TO PREACH

I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of his power. Although I am less than the least of all God’s people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ. Ephesians 3:7-8 

The first time I was allowed to preach, I was very nervous. It took me about six weeks to prepare my message, all fifteen pages. After the minister introduced me I opened my Bible where I kept my notes. There was page one. I welcomed everybody and turned the page…and there was page fifteen! Thirteen pages missing! 

That day the youth group sang a chorus that went something like this, “Here comes Jesus; see Him walking on the water. He’ll lift you up and help you to stand…”  

I believe the Lord challenged me at that moment with the question, “What are you going to do with what I’ve given you?” I believe that Jesus said to me, “Angus, I’m going to preach this sermon. Are you prepared to trust Me?” I closed my Bible. I started sharing my heart with the people, telling them what Jesus Christ meant to me. I was prepared to serve the Lord, and I believed He Himself would give me the right words. Luke 21:15  

God called all His children to be servants of His Gospel. He equipped us through His Spirit. What are you doing with what the Lord Jesus Christ has given you? Are you prepared to serve Him and to trust Him? Even when your notes are gone? 

Lord, today I want to thank You for trusting me with Your Gospel of salvation. I am prepared to serve You. Give me the right words. Amen
