40acts: The Lent Generosity Challenge

DAY 7 OF 47

Everybody you know now started off as a stranger.

Think back to the year before you met your best friend. Had you seen them in public you probably would have just walked on by without batting an eyelid. Imagine if they had started talking to you. What would your response have been?

In His encounter with the Samaritan woman, Jesus used a seemingly ordinary request for water to open up a conversation that would ultimately save this unsuspecting woman at the well.

Jesus began telling her things about her life that, humanly speaking, He could never have known. It completely threw her! Suddenly a casual conversation turned into a theological Q&A.

Every day is an opportunity to bring the message of hope to the people we encounter. Seemingly ordinary situations can put us into contact with people that God has aligned us to meet. Perhaps they really need prayer or simply just some encouragement.

Today’s focus for our generosity is about using a seemingly ordinary moment, (sharing some chocolate) to connect with the people around you.

When the Samaritan woman left the house, I doubt she expected to encounter a prophet, let alone the Saviour of the world, whilst she was fetching water. Whom will chocolate bring you in front of today?

About this Plan

40acts: The Lent Generosity Challenge

What if Lent was about giving out instead of giving up? This Bible plan is an adaptation of the full 40acts challenge. Our hope is that as you explore and practice biblical generosity in all areas of your life, you would experience its transformational impact. Each day contains a prompt for one act of generosity on that day's topic, with Sunday reflections summarising the theme of the acts that week.
