The Process
Usually you aren't immediately "close" to someone. Getting to know that person is a process.
As you spend time with them, you learn what they like and what they don't like. As the relationship develops, you begin to understand what kind of person they really are.
The bottom line is: A relationship doesn't just happen on it's own.
For a relationship to happen, you must make an effort to get to know the other person. You must decide that the relationship is worth investing in. You must be willing to spend time with them, listen and talk with them.
A Relationship With Jesus
That is exactly how it is in our relationship with Jesus. Sadly, sometimes we minimize getting to know Him. We get busy with making money, studying for school, the constant family demands, or working in the ministry.
Don't allow the good things you do to overshadow the most important goal of all--knowing Jesus.
Compared to all the other things that we could be doing, developing our personal relationship with Jesus is the most important. We don't want to arrive at heaven's gate someday only to hear Him say, "Depart from me, I never knew you!"
Remember: Knowing about God is not enough, you must take steps to come to know Him personally.
What God wants:
- To show you who He really is
- To spend time with you every day
- For you to pursue Him, not merely knowledge about Him
Reflect:
- Can I honestly say that "knowing Christ" is my #1 priority?
- Am I doing something every day that will draw me closer to God?
- Will I give Him my time?
Read the Bible passages for the day and ask God to speak to you.
