DAY 17 OF 47

ENOUGH: CHANGING THE GAME

“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” (Mark 8:34)

Moving from Birmingham to London was a big deal. We had been there for 14 years; I loved my job, my friends and the kids were settled in school. I clearly remember being out for a run and the Lord speaking to me, “Anne, you are writing this book called Game Changers, but are you willing to change the game?” I belted out: “No, I am not!”

Denying ourselves means laying down what we would otherwise choose in order to follow Jesus.

Some of us can choose, but others have to leave their homes because of famine, war or major disasters. Jesus is saying that whatever happens, choose Me first. The road to Calvary is a trust and a faith journey, but ultimately it leads to life. It won’t be easy, but it’s still the best way. Being obedient to His call has taken us to places we never would have imagined.

Lord Jesus, thank You that You didn’t give up in Gethsemane: that even though You longed not to go to the cross, You still walked to Calvary. Thank You that You didn’t stay dead but rose again, welcoming us into new life and relationship with You. Please help us to be willing to go wherever, whenever, whatever for Your kingdom’s sake, amen.

About this Plan

Enough: Lent Devotionals

In God’s eyes, we are more than enough. It’s why He sent His son to reconcile us to Him. Though we may never grasp just how much He loves us, at Lent we can take time to reflect on all He did for us. It's time to reject the message that we aren’t enough, and instead remember Christ died for us, just as we are.
