Sacred Holidays: A Devotional Leading Up To Valentine's Day

DAY 5 OF 5

DAY FIVE:

Today we will wrap up looking at the final things we are told about love. Be sure to stick around until the end because there is a fun, little Valentine’s Day, surprise for you!

Read the first part of 1 Corinthians 13:4 and note what love never does.

God’s love, never ends; it is truly un-ending.

This is hard to wrap our heads around. For most of us, we’ve experienced a lot of love from others that seemed temporary or conditional. When we think of those who should always love us—like parents, spouses, or even our own children—we’re reminded of times of unrelenting pain where we experienced a great  loss of love.

But God.

Oh sister, I hope you hear this: God’s love for you is one you can count on always being there.

Read Lamentations 3:22-24 and note what you learn about God’s love.

His love truly never ends, and his love and mercy come new each morning because He is faithful!

Pause for a moment and thank God for loving you with a never-giving-up kind of love.

The disciples once questioned Jesus, asking Him, “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” (Matthew 22:36). Jesus answered that love (loving God and others) was at the center of all the laws. It was the most important thing. As we wrap up our plan on 1 Corinthians 13, we will see the same concept.

Read 1 Corinthians 13:13. What is the greatest, most important thing?

Love is greater than faith. Love is greater than hope. Love is greater than every other law, rule, or commandment.

Often times when people think about God, they think about rules or religious behavior. We forget that He said love is the most important thing. When pressed, Jesus didn’t talk about any of the hot button items that make headlines. He didn’t discuss the things that divide us by denomination. He didn’t talk about our sin or our strongholds. He didn’t talk about our spiritual disciplines. No, He talked about love. In the end, there was one thing he wanted us to know mattered most: love.

One thing I’ve learned, and am still learning, is that when I choose to love—love God, love others, and love myself—everything else finds the right course.
