Faith Matters
“Everything I know about leadership, I learned from the Bible.”
That’s been John Maxwell’s confession for years, and it’s still true to this day. When it comes to practical, day-to-day wisdom for being a great leader, no book is better than the Bible.
You don’t have to believe in God for the Bible to speak powerfully to your situation. There are stories of successful and unsuccessful leaders and entire chapters devoted to nothing but wise advice. Anyone can open the Bible and find help for their leadership journey.
But the ultimate help for your journey comes when you take a step of faith and trust God. A relationship with God is one of the most impactful ways you can make Today Matter.
In the Revelation of John, chapter 3, the old apostle records a message from Jesus, God’s Son, on the importance of a relationship between God and humanity. Jesus says to John, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”
The picture Jesus paints is one of nearness and intimacy—God is not some distant, disapproving father-figure. He has come looking for you, knocking on your door in the hopes of gaining an invitation to come inside and share a meal. There, across a table from God, He will get to know you and you will get to know Him.
It’s the power of a relationship, and it is exactly what faith in God is all about. Faith is simply your personal choice to allow Jesus in—into your thinking, into your choices, into your life.
Recent research suggests that the average adult makes around 35,000 choices per day. Most of them are small, but small decisions are what our lives are built upon. Learning to make smart decisions, even in the smallest of areas, is the key to living a life that is successful and fulfilled.
That means the choices you make today will determine your direction for years to come. Who will you spend time with? Who will you choose to work alongside?
While we may have several people that come to mind, the first and best relationship you can choose to invest in today is a relationship with Jesus, God’s Son. It’s a relationship that can begin with just a simple act of faith—and it will change your life for the better.
Forever.
