First Things First Sample
Silence the Noise
In our world today, we are flooded with noisy things that are hungry for our attention. Social media, television and movies, school and work, and so many other things are constantly pulling at us, requiring and wanting something from us. While all of these things are not bad individually, it is easy to get overwhelmed with the mental clutter that they create and that makes it hard for us to hear God’s voice and to focus on the things that are most important. The devil uses things that are seemingly discreet to distract us away from the things that God has for us.
In the scripture we read today, Martha was busy about things around her home that needed to be done, but she was so distracted by what she was doing that she missed out on time with Jesus. We cannot avoid things in life that will keep us busy, but we can make sure to prioritize and focus on living for things that matter most. If we distance ourselves from things that are distractions, we’ll find more time to silence the noise that’s around us, focus on what’s important, and to listen to God’s voice in our lives.
Action Step: Make a list of things that are important in your life. Next, make a list of things that distract you from these things. What are some ways that you can distance yourself from these distractions so that you can focus on what’s important?
