Yesterday Today Forever

DAY 10 OF 15

Whenever I am in a moment of true worship of Jesus, trouble is absent.  In fact, my mind and heart becomes “troubled” with peace. That peace is so great when I fix my eyes on Jesus that it tends to leave no room for other thoughts. Therefore, I know whenever I am distracted, because my heart is troubled and my mind is stressed.

The disciples found themselves in troubling circumstances, and one of the most troubling was that Jesus was about to die and leave them. Yet even at the prospect of His absence, Jesus was not disturbed in the least. Quite the opposite, He was confident about His departure; so confident to the point that He wasn’t even troubled on behalf of the disciples.

Leaving my son Brooks at school sometimes is troubling, not because my day ahead might have troubles, but the thought of him being troubled troubles me. So for Jesus to be at peace Himself, especially at the prospect of His own coming death, is one thing; but it seems quite staggering that He was also not troubled for His disciples, His sons.

He knew the same peace that He had was now available to them. He gave them that peace. It wasn’t a watered-down version; it was the same Spirit of peace that He had. Jesus showed us that reliance on the Holy Spirit is the way to live as a human. That we, too, can have the same peace. We need no longer be troubled or afraid, but can now live peace-filled and confident, for the unchanging God who created all things is now also with us.

No matter how big our troubles are, may we be more “troubled” by His peace. May the peace that transcends our understanding overwhelm our troubled minds today as we worship Jesus and fix our full attention on Him.

Spend a moment to worship Him and receive His Spirit afresh today. His love is the same yesterday, today and forever, and this perfect love drives out all fear and leaves in its place a peace this world cannot reproduce. That peace demonstrates He is always with us.
