Brave to speak truth
When is lying justified? What about little white lies? What about lies that protect someone from being hurt? The Bible is pretty clear on this, right here in Paul’s letter where it says “stop telling lies.” No lies are good lies. The humbling truth is, telling lies is common. We lie to cover up things we’re ashamed of. We lie to make excuses for our behavior. We lie because we think it’s better than the truth. We lie to strangers, to loved ones, and even to ourselves. Sometimes our lies are elaborate and complicated. Other times, they are so small that we almost believe them to be true.
But as Christ followers, we are called to always speak the truth. We are called to a higher standard of living right before the Lord. As “parts of the same body,” when we tell a lie, we hurt ourselves. Deception in our heart makes the body sick. If you’ve ever been lied to, you know this is true. Lies hurt. But speaking truth is evidence of our faith in a good God. We can be brave to speak truth when we let God lead us to truthfulness.
Father, thank You for the call You have on my life to speak truth. Thank You, Lord, for helping me guard my tongue against telling lies of all sizes and kinds. God, You are good and true, and I want to walk in Your ways. Let the words of my mouth be pleasing to you, Lord, my rock and my redeemer. Amen.
About this Plan
There isn’t a woman on this earth who doesn’t struggle with fear, doubt, and uncertainty. Yet, through His Word, God lovingly reminds us over and over again not to live our lives in fear. Instead, He commands us to be strong and courageous…maybe even fearless. Why? Because He is with us. Joshua 1:9
