Relationships Restored

DAY 4 OF 5

Jesus’ ministry shows what the good news – of the coming of the kingdom of God – will look like as it breaks into the contemporary world: people restored to wholeness in many different aspects of their lives, reintegrating into their communities, and developing in their relationship with him.

The gospels teach us what it means to follow in Jesus’ footsteps:

Jesus reminds his followers in John 14, “Whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing.” Throughout the New Testament, we see the church presented as a caring, inclusive and distinctive community. Inclusion is about creating an environment in which everyone is treated fairly and respectfully. One, where all people feel valued, and have equal access to resources and opportunities. An environment where everyone has power to influence and make decisions, regardless of their different ages, races, beliefs, genders etc. It’s in this kind of community that people can be reconciled with God and with each other. This is the working of God’s restoration story.

Jesus calls the church to reach out into the world. In sharing our faith, we bear witness to God’s goodness and love and encourage the growth of relationships with others, trusting in the Spirit to act in this process.

Reflect:

What could your community do to become more caring, inclusive and distinctive? What are you willing to do to bring about change? Are there ways you can build relationships with people who are different to you and help them be included more in your community?

Pray:

Thank you, Lord, for creating each of us with value. No one is worthless in your sight. I pray that all people would come to understand their worth, that the church would lead the way in heralding this truth, and that you will show me how to help do my part in your restoration plan.
