Happily Ever After: Trophy wife
Donald Trump wasn’t the first, and he assuredly won’t be the last to trade in an older wife for a newer model. It seems to be a status thing for some men who have “made it” in life to put in for a spouse upgrade. And it works in the other direction as well. What a bitter pill to swallow it is when someone returns home from overseas to find out his spouse no longer wants him.
Guys, who are the husbands that you think are the luckiest? What’s your definition of a trophy wife? "Sports Illustrated" swimsuit-model figure? "Vogue" magazine face? Here’s a concept: “A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown” (Proverbs 12:4). Or this: “Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Give her the reward she has earned” (Proverbs 31:30,31). Again, let’s split up our application in two ways.
Husbands, are you blessed to be married to a woman with courage, integrity, and work ethic? Are you proud of her? Does she have everything in order back home? Can you trust that the kids are being taken care of because she’s there? Is she the dearest human treasure of your life, the crown you wear with pride? Then consider yourself exceptionally blessed, because you don’t have to experience the jealousy and hurt feelings common to so many in today’s world. Consider yourself the luckiest husband.
Have you told her that you love her lately? Have you thanked God for her today?
Wives, what can you do to be the God-pleasing spouses your husbands can honor?

About this Plan
The experience of serving your country overseas--and sometimes seeing firsthand man’s inhumanity to man--may teach you important lessons about life while turning your stomach at the same time. But recognize that God has an even better way for us to learn life wisdom, a way that continually draws us closer to him no matter how far from family or church we might be. Because of his great love for us, he would much rather make us wiser through words. In this way we wouldn’t be sadder but wiser; we would be wiser and happier. The Bible’s book of Proverbs is an absolute gold mine of wisdom for the daily decisions you must make. It will help you develop your personal values and tune your life’s agenda more closely to resemble God’s.
