The Daily Dose: 30 Days to a Healthy Soul

DAY 21 OF 30

Sudden Stops

Isaiah 55:8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."

Few things are more annoying than sudden stops. One minute you’re cruising along hardly paying any attention when the car in front of you suddenly stops, forcing you to stop too. It’s jarring and sudden, but it’s these stops that often keep us from crashing. It’s these stops that keep us safe. While sudden stops might mean a delay in our plans, they’re meant to get us where we’re going and to make it there in one piece.

Perhaps you’ve been forced to stop suddenly. You were cruising along when all of a sudden an unexpected and unwanted stop forced you to slow down.

Quit sulking about your fate. Stop worrying about the delay. God is not stressed by your sudden stop. He knows all about it and is with you in it. Your sudden stop is meant to slow you down and protect you.

We tend to forget that God thinks differently about our lives than we often do. We tend to forget that God's vision is greater, and His ways are broader than ours. He sees the big picture while we get caught up in the moment. He sees the endpoint while we're limited in our understanding. It's only when we remember how big God is and how vast are his thoughts about us that we can yield control of our lives back to Him.

Thank God for the sudden stops in your life and use the time to give Him praise.

Questions:

Why do you think God allows us to stop suddenly on the road to where we’re headed? Can you stop and give Him praise for your unexpected delay?

About this Plan

The Daily Dose: 30 Days to a Healthy Soul

Most Christians long to be in God’s Word but don’t know where to start. The Daily Dose is a practical devotional that will help Christians get stronger in faith and think biblically about their daily living. Every day you will be given a verse of Scripture to meditate on as well as a devotional entry followed by a practical application question to process what you've read.
