Hope In JesusSample
Sometimes our world can be very dark. Sometime ago I met an enthusiastic man who was once a lecturer of an engineering college but now works in a mission that caters to young people. He told me that he wasn’t always like this and that his world was once very dark. He was 14 years old, staying in a hostel, when he received the news that his mother had died. What he didn’t realise at that time was that his mother had actually been murdered 3 days ago and her decomposed body was found in a nearby lake.
His world crumbled, he was very attached to his mother. He came from an inter-faith home and she was the Christian. He was filled with anger. He questioned Christianity and God’s existence. He swore to take revenge and began planning to kill the people who had murdered his mother. His days were filled with rage and meaningless activity. You can imagine the darkness that might have enveloped him. He had lost all hope.
It was at a time like this that the light of Christ pierced his dark world. Psalm 112:4 says, “Light dawns in the darkness for the upright; he is gracious, merciful and righteous.” Don’t give up yet, if you feel the world you live in is dark, Christ is gracious and merciful.
The seeds of light that his mother had sown sprouted unexpectedly and ever since his life has been transformed. In Psalm 97:11 it says, “Light is sown for the righteous and joy for the upright in heart.” Ever since, as it says in Psalm 119:106, he has, “sworn an oath and confirmed it, to keep God’s righteous rules.” His hate was overshadowed by the joy of Christ.
Do not lose hope no matter how dark. Instead, wait for the seeds of the light and the joy of Christ to sprout in your life.
About this Plan
Hope is important to us but how can we find it? This Advent, hope is just around the corner. Christ is hope personified. In this week’s devotion we are given an opportunity to reflect on Hope.
