When Your Bad Meets His GoodSample

When Your Bad Meets His Good

DAY 3 OF 5

DAY THREE: Rely on God. Not Your Circumstances.

Philippians has always helped me in times of confusion. Paul wrote it when he was locked up and in shackles. Like any human being, he might easily have questioned his circumstances and wondered why God allowed them. He might have mentioned being fearful of what was next. Yet instead of discovering Paul’s questions and fears, we find a man secure enough in his faith to show us how to maintain peace in the midst of our struggles.

Your circumstances might be as far from peaceful as Paul’s were. Is your marriage in jeopardy? Is your house in foreclosure? Are you in prison? There is hope anyhow! Paul’s message is clear: our peace cannot depend upon our circumstances. This life will never be completely free of conflict.

When worry calls your name, remember to focus on whatever is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. There is no one living who should not be worshiping the Creator of the universe. It’s not because He needs our worship but because worshiping Him changes us. It changes the way we see God, ourselves, and our circumstances. Instead of focusing on yourself, your attention shifts to the power of the Most High.

Let’s get real: pain is part of life. There’s no escaping heartbreak, disappointment, and anxiety. What matters is how you play the cards you are dealt. Adapted from the book, "When Your Bad Meets His Good" by Kimberly Jones-Pothier, this devotional shows you how to turn your pain into purpose.
