BOUNDARY TESTING
Many parents assume poor parenting results in kids who test the boundaries. When seen in this light, each challenge of authority seemingly confirms what the parent fears most "I'm not a good parent!"
But testing boundaries is part of the individuation process that starts very early in life. We all went through it. It helps to remember that, like us, our kids need to learn to think for themselves in order to "leave and cleave" later in life. Developing this skill takes time and in the process, they are bound to make mistakes. When they test your boundaries, don't panic! Instead, embrace these times as opportunities to communicate your value system and impart a sense of security by responding with calm but firm consequences.
When you are prepared for your kids to test the boundaries, you are better able to respond in love rather than anger.

About this Plan
The purpose of this devotional is to see what God's Word has to say about the parenting challenges every parent faces. Each day includes a passage of Scripture and an application of that passage to the trials and triumphs of leading families to maturity in Christ. The devotionals are created by Parenting by Design, a Fort Worth ministry devoted to teaching parents to lead their children the way God lead His children.
