Happy Trails: Journey Through the Psalms of AscentSample
Meditate on this tremendous and mysterious truth: The place that God seeks to dwell is within you, in the confines of your heart, to ever be in communion, communication, and union with you.
In this chapter we see the Psalmist recalling the previous days of David's commitment to build a "home" for the Lord in Jerusalem. (Verse 5) This verse might not feel like it makes much of a direct tie to our lives today, but the New Testament teaches us that God no longer dwells in the temple, but in the hearts of each of His followers. "Don’t you realize that together you have become God’s inner sanctuary and that the Spirit of God makes his permanent home in you?" (Verse 16, TPT) Just as God promised to dwell in Zion in this Old Testament verse, He has now promised that you will be the place in which He dwells, His permanent sanctuary!
Son or daughter in Christ, God is not distant from you. He is not far off, as your feeling may tell you, nor is He even just before you as a guide, but He is also present in you. He is carrying you in your calling, He is sustaining you in your suffering, He is the bringer of blessing and your perpetual companion. You, child of God, are His home of choice.
"God dwells in His creation and is everywhere indivisibly present in all His works. He is transcendent above all His works even while He is immanent within them." -- A.W. Tozer
- How does the reality of God, not only dwelling in you, but wanting to dwell in you, change how you see yourself? How does this change how you see God?
- How can you apply this truth to the season you’re in?
- Can you think of an area in your life that you have been operating in your own power, failing to lean into the power of God's presence in you? Bring it to the Lord.

About this Plan
The 15 Psalms of Ascent were traditionally sung by pilgrims as they made a mountainous journey to Jerusalem for the annual feast, and are now songs for us to sing in our journey toward our true home in heaven. During this 15-day reading plan we will dive into these pilgrim songs focusing on one Psalm per day.
